School of Film & Media alumni return for annual 'Meet the Graduates' event

We were delighted to welcome over twenty Lincoln School of Film and Media alumni back to the University on the 29th October for the school’s annual ‘Meet the Graduates’ event.

The event marked the first of the annual alumni school events, whereby a selection of alumni from each school are invited back to take part in a question and answer panel with current students, followed by informal networking and experience sharing with smaller groups and reconnecting with their fellow graduates.

MTG Panel

Commencing with a warm welcome and introduction from Head of School, Dr Sarah Barrow, the Question Time-style panel that followed saw BA (Hons) Media Production alumni Joanna Graham (2012), Tony Kelly (2003), Aleysha Minns (2013) and Ashley Wilks (2014), alongside Lewis Cater (BA Hons Film Television and Journalism, 2011) and Tom Ward (BA Hons Audio Production, 2013) share advice with the students; discussing their current roles and experiences of breaking into the media industry.

Hearing valuable first hand advice from alumni who have completed similar courses, was greatly received by the students. Now working as a 4Crew Production Manager at Channel 4, Aleysha explained that this came as a result of attending a 4Talent day in Lincoln in 2013. Ashley Wilks, Tom Mckie and Luke Winter, the Royal Television Society award-winning team behind Wall Breaker Productions also shared their experience of working in the world of corporate and documentary video production.

With additional advice and tips being shared by those working in screenwriting, directing, editing, photography and audio production, the afternoon concluded with an informal networking session whereby students and alumni were able to continue discussions further and share contacts for the future.

Our alumni very much enjoyed their time with us, as we did meeting with them. Lewis Cater said it was “great to meet so many proactive students and graduates” and Nathan Dean (BA Hons Media Production, 2013) commented that “seeing everyone today has been such a creative refuelling”, whilst Katy Atkinson said “I really enjoyed it! What a great event, with such a passionate people. It had the best feeling of all the events that I have attended so far”.

We’re very grateful to all twenty three alumni that gave up their time to come and talk to the students, and if you are interested in attending next year’s event, or a similar event relating to your degree, contact us at alumni@lincoln.ac.uk to register your interest.
