Alumni gather at first London event

On Thursday 30th July 2015, the alumni team welcomed University of Lincoln graduates from across the years and from a variety of academic backgrounds to the first of many events to be held across the country.

Attendees were joined at London's St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel by Visiting Professor Dr Jonathan Foyle, who spoke about his involvement with the institution, his work crossover with the University’s renowned conservation consultancy division, Crick Smith, and the fantastic strides being made by our alumni.

The event, which was the first of many planned across the UK, was a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with friends, meet fellow graduates and to keep in touch with the alumni team. The aim of the events is to build and maintain relationships while sharing the continuing developments being made by the University of Lincoln.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln, Professor Mary Stuart, also attended the event, along with Professor Matthew Cragoe, Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of the College of Arts, and colleagues from across the institution.

Professor Mary Stuart said: “The London alumni event was a very special occasion. It provided a wonderful opportunity for us to reminisce with our former students, and find out about the careers they have gone on to forge since graduating from Lincoln. We were delighted to be able to share the continuing developments being made by the University of Lincoln, and we look forward to meeting many more alumni groups at similar events in the future.”

Guests were given tours of the hotel by Ian and Michael Crick-Smith, both Senior Researchers in the School of History & Heritage at the University of Lincoln, who  were involved in the hotel’s £150 million restoration project. The team worked on many of the original areas of the hotel, undertaking detailed paint analysis and research into the appearance of the main public areas which were then instrumental to the accurate restoration of these areas.

Tim Weaver, who graduated from the University’s Business and Management programme in 2014, said: “Congratulations to the University of Lincoln for putting on a great event. It was a great venue, and nice to speak to other people who went to Lincoln – new and old graduates! I’d love to see another event in London soon.”
