While still at the University of Lincoln Dolores was lucky enough to secure an internship with menswear designer Alex Mattson.
Delores said: “In 2011 I held an intern position as a studio design assistant. While there, I helped to sew garments for celebrities, including a leather jacket which Tinie Tempah wore in his music video, and some other leather pieces worn by international group The Black Eyed Peas during their 2011 American Music Awards Performance.
“In my final year, I felt that I had finally come into my own as a designer and was finally feeling confident about what I wanted to create and knew where I wanted it to go.”
After graduating from Lincoln, Delores went on to study for her MA at Nottingham University before working as an intern for menswear designer Liam Hodges. While Delores was in this role she worked on individual garments to be sold in London, Asia, Japan, China and Korea, while also helping to build the collection for Men’s Fashion Week.
In 2015 Delores decided that she wanted to work for herself, establishing her own fashion label and launching DELORES. She currently has a collection on show in the Black Cultural Archives Museum in London.
She said: “I aim to develop my business in to an international brand where I will be showcasing at fashion weeks and selling internationally in different shops.“I would like to continue exhibiting in museums using my fashion design skills as a way of telling stories and showing different cultures.”
