Requests for replacement certificates and transcripts are processed by the Student Administration team.

Replacement Certificates


The certificate the University issues is proof of the conferment of your award and is a unique and valuable document. Under no circumstances will the University issue additional or duplicate copies of your certificate if you still have within your possession the original certificate.

Replacement certificates can only be issued if your original certificate has been lost or damaged, and the University reserves the right not to issue a duplicate nor specify the reasons for its decision. Replacement certificates are issued in what was your official name at the time of study.

Undergraduate and postgraduate degree awards obtained in 1992 or earlier:

The University is only able to issue replacement certificates for awards made by the University from 1993 onwards. Awards before this date were made by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA), the Open University is now responsible for these records. How to apply

Undergraduate and postgraduate degree awards obtained from 1993 onwards:

Please complete the application form and ensure that you attached a copy of your proof of identity (e.g. passport, driving license). If you have changed your name since you were enrolled at the University please also provide proof of your name change (for example your marriage certificate or change of name deed).

Cost and payment

Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree awards obtained in 1993 or later;
Certificate and postage to a UK address via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery £30
Certificate and postage to a EU/Overseas address via DHL courier £40

How long will it take

Completed forms will normally be processed within 2 weeks, however you should allow up to 4 weeks during peak periods (June – Sept). Forms not completed fully will not be processed and will be returned. The Certificate will only be posted via the method you specified when placing your order to the address on the application form. We are unable to scan and email replacement certificate to you. 

 

Transcripts / Confirmation Letters


Your University transcript supplements your University certificate by providing a breakdown of the modules you studied, the marks and credits you achieved and the degree date and classification. These are only available for former students on taught courses. 

A confirmation letter can also be requested to confirm the dates you attended your University programme and the award you achieved.

How to apply

To request an official transcript or confirmation letter, you must complete the request form which can be found at the link below. We aim to process most requests within 2 weeks, however requests for courses completed prior to 2000 please allow up to 4 weeks. 

Please note that it may not be possible to produce a full transcript for students who studied prior to 2000 as transcripts were not produced by the University as a matter of course. We cannot guarantee the completeness of records for students who studied at the University prior to 2000 or at one of our Partner Institutions due to system changes and institution mergers.

Frequently asked questions


Q. How will my documentation be posted?

A. All transcripts and confirmation letters are sent via standard Royal Mail. 

Q. I studied years ago – can I still have a transcript?
A. Schools vary in how long they kept detailed records of student’s individual module marks. Not all Schools hold comprehensive archived records for previous graduates, as such we are unable to guarantee that a complete set of detailed module information has been retained for all former students in all Schools. Whilst we will make every effort to obtain your past marks in order to produce a transcript, we can only do so if your School has retained this information. If you wish to check whether we can provide you with a transcript before submitting your request please contact assessments@lincoln.ac.uk  If you just require proof of your award you may wish to consider requesting a confirmation of degree letter. 

Q. My course was validated by the University of Lincoln but I studied at a different Campus – Can I have a transcript?
A. Occasionally the University of Lincoln validates programmes that have been taught at other institutions, and thus produces award documentation for them. If you attended another institution and your final award was validated by the University of Lincoln we may be able to produce a transcript but we cannot guarantee the completeness of records for students who studied at other campuses due to system changes and institution mergers.
