Conservation graduates celebrate 20th anniversary reunion

Two decades after they graduated from the historic Lincoln Cathedral, the University of Lincoln’s first ever cohort of BA Conservation & Restoration graduates gathered for a landmark reunion.

Travelling from as far afield as Norway, the graduates attended a special 20th anniversary reunion event at the University, hosted by Christopher Robinson – a fellow 1995 graduate, who is now a Senior Technician Specialist and part-time tutor within Lincoln’s established Conservation department.

Attendees included Anne Bjorke, Head of Conservation for Bergen district museums in Norway, Christa Gerdwilker, Stone Conservator with Historic Scotland, Victoria Hobbs, Conservation Officer at Brewhouse Yard Museum in Nottingham, and Lauren Murdoch, who is now Head of the Scottish Government’s Mental Health Unit.

Also joining the former students was former technician Paul McAuley, now Collections Care Officer for Monuments with Edinburgh City Council, and Sue Thomas, retired Principal Lecturer and Head of Conservation from 1988 – 2013.

On Saturday 20th May 2015, the guests celebrated with current Lincoln students from the School of History & Heritage, as well as family and friends, and enjoyed a tour of the 2015 Conservation Degree Show, Journey to the Centre of Conservation.

The guests also enjoyed a celebratory meal with fellow 1995 graduates Ian and Michael Crick-Smith. Ian and Michael are co-founders of the University of Lincoln’s conservation consultancy division, Crick Smith, and Senior Researchers in the School of History & Heritage. Crick Smith is renowned for its high profile work investigating the historic decorative interiors of some of the UK’s finest stately homes and national landmarks – from HMS Victory and the V&A Museum, to Bletchley Park and Kew Palace

Conservation students at Lincoln now have opportunities to take part in prestigious commercial projects with Crick Smith, while completing their undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate diploma programme.
