Penguin Lessons for Lincoln graduate

A University of Lincoln graduate has had his work featured in one of Penguin Books recent high profile releases.

Media Production graduate, and now Director, Filmmaker and Animator Neil Baker of Electric Egg in Lincoln, has produced illustrations for new release ‘The Penguin Lessons’.

The book, written by author Tom Michell, is described as a unique and moving true story about Tom and his pet penguin Juan Salvador.

After a move to Argentina into a teaching position at a prestigious boarding school, Tom meets his new flightless friend when he rescues the bird from an oil slick in Uruguay just days before a new term.

Neil’s involvement with the project started when Penguin Art Director Nick Shah happened upon an illustrated series of drawings of penguins that Neil had produced as a break from his day job. After the drawings were spotted online, Neil was initially brought in to complete the cover art, but the project grew to include internal illustrations and a number of animated sequences.

One animation, which was produced by Neil and fellow University of Lincoln graduate Shahnaz Mohseni, is voiced by BAFTA winner Bill Nighy and has been used to promote the new release online.
